What is love?

Love can feel most certain when we want someone close. Yet closeness can turn into a claim on who they should be. If love begins to make room for a reality we do not control, is that its deepest center—or one demanding way love can take?

Possession asks another person to secure us, reflect us, or remain unchanged for us. Moving beyond possession would mean encountering someone beyond the role they play in our life—their freedom, pain, desires, and good. But is that movement the heart of every love, one form among romance, friendship, devotion, and care, or an ethical demand by which any love should be tested?
