How should we live?

Beyond survival and comfort, human beings ask how life ought to be lived: with courage or caution, with duty or compassion, with discipline or surrender.

Traditions answer with paths and commandments that are not identical. What counts as courage in one setting may look like recklessness in another; what one teacher calls surrender another may call abdication. Duty, virtue, mercy, justice, and service all appear—often praised, sometimes defined in conflicting ways.
